ได้เวลาที่คนไทยต้องรู้ว่าชาวโลกคิดอะไร

– การสร้างปัญหาให้โลกสไตล์รัสเซียแต่ในแบบไทย ๆ
ขบวนการประท้วงต่อต้านรัฐบาลในกรุงเทพได้สร้างความอื้อฉาวไปทั่วโลก – ก่อความตึงเครียดในขณะที่ทั้งโลกควรมุ่งไปที่รัสเซีย โดยฟรานเซสโก ซิสซิ กรุงปักกิ่ง
เมื่อ 8 สิงหาคมที่ผ่านมารัฐเล็ก ๆ ที่ชื่อจอร์เจียได้บุกเข้าโจมตียักษ์ใหญ่มหาอำนาจอย่างรัสเซีย รัสเซียรุกกลับและถล่มจอร์เจียในห้าวัน และหลังจากการพักรบชั่วคราวเพื่อเปิดทางให้มหกรรมกีฬาโลกอย่างโอลิมปิคผ่านไป ความตึงเครียดของโลกเสรีก็ทวีขึ้น
ก่อนหน้าที่จะเกิดศึกครั้งนี้ไม่กี่วัน รัฐบาลสหรัฐที่วอชิงตันดีซียังมั่นใจว่ากระบวนการลดกำลังอาวุธนิวเคลียร์กับเกาหลีเหนือจะผ่านไปด้วยดี และเมื่อ 6 สิงหาคมที่ผ่านมาเมื่อตอนที่ประธานาธิบดีบุชมาเยือนกรุงเทพก็ได้รับการยืนยันจากบรรดานายพลและพระเจ้าแผ่นดินว่าจะมีการคัดค้านการทำรัฐประหารอย่างแน่นอน และในวันที่ 26 สิงหาคม ทันทีที่การแข่งขันโอลิมปิคจบลง และขณะที่โลกกำลังกังวลว่ารัสเซียกำลังมีแผนการในอนาคตกับรัฐจอร์เจียอย่างไร รัฐบาลเกาหลีเหนือก็ประกาศยุติการเจรจาสัญญาเพื่อการลดกำลังอาวุธนิวเคลียร์ และในเวลาเดียวกันนั้นเองที่กรุงเทพ ฝูงม็อบก็กลับเข้ายึดถนนเพื่อปลุกระดมให้มีการจลาจล
เป็นที่ชัดเจนว่าเกาหลีเหนือพยายามยื่นข้อเสนอให้รัสเซีย การที่เกาหลีเหนือถอนการสนับสนุนข้อตกลงเพื่อการลดกำลังอาวุธนิวเคลียร์คือการยื่นข้อแลกเปลี่ยนกับทางรัสเซียว่า ถ้ารัสเซียสนับสนุนเกาหลีเหนือคือให้เงินสนับสนุนรัฐบาลให้ผ่านพ้นฤดูหนาวอันทารุณของปีนี้ไปได้ เกาหลีจะเล่นไม้แข็งกับอเมริกาและประเทศคู่เจรจาข้อตกลงฯ ดังกล่าวอีกหกประเทศ และถ้ารัสเซียเลือกที่จะรับข้อเสนอของเกาหลีเหนือ แปลว่าความหวังต่าง ๆ ของโลกเสรีคงหยุดลง เราจะกลับไปสู่สงครามเย็นอีกครั้งหนึ่ง แต่ถ้ารัสเซียไม่เล่นด้วยกับเกาหลี คราวนี้เกาหลีเหนือจะเป็นฝ่ายจนมุม และในที่สุดก็ต้องยอมแพ้
ในวันที่ 27 สิงหาคม โฆษกทำเนียบขาวประกาศด้วยความมั่นใจว่ารัสเซียจะไม่สนับสนุนเกาหลีเหนือ โฆษกทำเนียบขาวให้สัมภาษณ์ว่า “เราไม่ได้รับแจ้งว่ามีการลดระดับความสำคัญของการเจรจาความร่วมมือหกฝ่ายในเรื่องนี้” และยังอ้างว่าทั้งจีน รัสเซีย ญี่ปุ่น และเกาหลีใต้ ต่างก็มีส่วนร่วมกับสหรัฐฯในการเจรจาลดอาวุธกับเปียงยาง
ไม่ว่าจะอย่างไรก็ตาม การแก้ปัญหาเรื่องเกาหลีเหนือเป็นเรื่องที่ต้องใช้เวลาหลายวัน และน่าจะนานเป็นหลายสัปดาห์ก่อนที่ทุกอย่างจะคลี่คลายและอาจต้องใช้เวลานานกว่านั้น สำหรับรัสเซียและอเมริกาในการที่จะประเมินสถานการณ์ว่าตัวเองอยู่ที่ไหนและควรจะไปทางไหนต่อ แต่โอกาสที่อารมณ์ร่วมของสังคมจะพลิกเปลี่ยนสามารถเกิดได้ทุกวินาทีตลอดเวลาที่เฝ้ามองสถานการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทย
ก่อนอื่นเรามาทำความเข้าใจเรื่องราวที่เกี่ยวข้องให้ถูกต้องดีกว่า สิ่งที่กลุ่มพันธมิตรประชาชนเพื่อประชาธิปไตยหรือ PAD ได้ทำเมื่อวันที่ 26 สิงหาคมด้วยการบุกเข้ายึดสถานีโทรทัศน์สร้างความเสียหายให้กับกระทรวง ทบวง กรม หลายแห่ง แล้วก็ยกขบวนไปปักหลักอยู่ที่สนามหญ้าหน้าที่ทำการรัฐบาล คือการปลุกปั่นเพื่อให้เกิดการจลาจลดี ๆ นี่เอง แต่ ณ เวลานี้ การจลาจลจะประสบผลสำเร็จหรือไม่ยังไม่รู้ชัดถ้านายกรัฐมนตรีผู้มาจากการเลือกตั้งรู้สึกว่าไม่มีอำนาจในการบริหารงานและตัดสินใจลาออก ผู้ก่อการจลาจลก็จะเป็นฝ่ายชนะ ถ้าผู้นำพันธมิตรฯ ถูกจับกุมและการเรียกร้องการรัฐประหารล้มเลิกลงไป ฝ่ายต้องการการรัฐประหารเป็นฝ่ายพ่ายแพ้ แต่ถ้าเรื่องไม่ได้ออกมาว่าฝ่ายจลาจลแพ้แล้ว คือถ้ามีการประนีประนอมรัฐบาลก็คงจะอยู่ต่อไปได้ แต่ไม่มีปัญญาจะควบคุมหรือกำกับดูแลอะไร เหมือนร่างคนป่วยที่เชื่อมต่อด้วยเครื่องช่วยหายใจ และเฝ้ารอเวลาที่จะถูกกลุ่มพันธมิตรโจมตีอีกครั้ง
การทำรัฐประหารในไทยเป็นเรื่องที่อันตรายมาก แม้ในช่วงที่สถานการณ์บ้านเมืองเป็นปกติ เพราะการรัฐประหารในไทยจะส่งผลลบอย่างร้ายแรงต่อกระบวนการประชาธิปไตยในภูมิภาคนี้ และจะกลายเป็นแรงกระตุ้นให้บรรดาผู้นำทหารในฟิลิปปินส์และอินโดเนเชียต่างคว้าปืนใช้รถถังเข้ามายึดกุมอำนาจรัฐ
แต่ภายใต้สถานการณ์ปัจจุบัน การก่อการจลาจลเช่นนี้ยิ่งเลวร้ายเข้าไปอีก การก่อการจลาจลในไทยครั้งนี้จะเพิ่มความตึงเครียดเข้าไปในสังคมโลกที่กำลังหาความมั่นคงและสันติภาพ และเป็นการเริ่มต้นแนวรบใหม่ในขณะที่เรากำลังพยายามยุติสงครามเย็นกับรัสเซีย
สังคมโลกต้องช่วยกันยุติการจลาจลในไทยในปี 1981 เพียงไม่กี่ปีหลังการล่มสลายของจอมเผด็จการสเปนอย่างนายพลฟรานซิสโก ฟรังโก และประเทศสเปน เพิ่งเข้าสู่ระบอบประชาธิปไตย กองทัพก็ทำการยึดอำนาจ รายการทีวีถ่ายทอดภาพผู้พันอันโตนิโอ เทเฮโรยืนถือปืนหน้าที่ทำการสภาผู้แทนราษฎรพร้อมประกาศกร้าวว่าเขาทำการยึดอำนาจเพื่อพระราชา ในสมัยนั้นแม้การก่อการจลาจลแบบนี้เป็นสิ่งที่พอจะยอมรับได้ แต่พระเจ้าแผ่นดินสเปนก็กลับประกาศว่าพระองค์ไม่สนับสนุนการทำรัฐประหาร และในที่สุดผู้พันเทเฮโรก็ถูกจับ
ณ เวลานี้ พระเจ้าแผ่นดินของไทยจะระงับการจลาจลครั้งนี้ได้หรือไม่ กลุ่มพันธมิตรได้ดึงเอาพระเจ้าแผ่นดินเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องด้วย โดยผู้นำของกลุ่มพากันอ้างว่าตนเองเป็นฝ่ายที่มีความจงรักภักดีและพากันใส่เสื้อสีเหลืองซึ่งเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการแสดงจงรักภักดีต่อพระเจ้าแผ่นดิน ในเมื่อเหตุการณ์เป็นเช่นนี้ พระเจ้าแผ่นดินของไทยจะลอยตัวอยู่เหนือการเมืองได้อย่างไร พระเจ้าแผ่นดินของไทยจะปฏิเสธคนที่อ้างว่าเป็นผู้ที่มีความจงรักภักดีได้อย่างไร นอกจากนี้กลุ่มพันธมิตรยังอ้างว่านายสมัคร สุนทรเวช นายกรัฐมนตรีมีแผนการจะล้มล้างราชวงศ์และสถาปนาสาธารณรัฐขึ้น สมัครปฏิเสธว่าไม่จริง พันธมิตรฯ ไม่เชื่อแล้วความจริงคืออะไร
ถ้าจะว่าไปแล้ว ประเทศไทยเป็นประชาธิปไตย ดังนั้นทุกคนทุกฝ่ายย่อมมีสิทธิแสดงความคิดเห็นได้ ถ้านายกรัฐมนตรีต้องการให้ประเทศมีการปกครองแบบสาธารณรัฐจริงก็ประกาศออกมาเลย แต่ถ้าเขาไม่ได้ทำเช่นนั้นก็แปลโดยตัวของมันเองว่าเขายังต้องการการปกครองภายใต้พระเจ้าแผ่นดิน การที่พันธมิตรฯ อ้างว่าเป็นกลุ่มผู้จงรักภักดี และในเวลาเดียวกันก็กล่าวหาศัตรูทางการเมืองว่าเป็นพวก “นิยมสาธารณรัฐ” แต่ความจริงแล้ว ผู้ที่จะตัดสินได้อย่างแท้จริงว่าใครเป็นผู้จงรักภักดี และใครไม่จงรักภักดีก็คือพระเจ้าแผ่นดินไม่ใช่หรือ อะไรเป็นเหตุที่กลุ่มพันธมิตรฯ นำมาอ้างในการตั้งยี่ห้อ “ไม่จงรักภักดี” ให้กับศัตรูทางการเมืองของตนได้ ความจริงก็คือพฤติการณ์แบบนี้เป็นเรื่องเก่าและได้ทำกันมาช้านาน กลุ่มเผด็จการฟาสซิสต์ของอิตาลีในยุค 1920 ก็อ้างว่ารักษาผลประโยชน์ของประเทศ และกล่าวร้ายศัตรูทางการเมืองว่าทรยศต่อแผ่นดินแม่ กลุ่มเผด็จการฟาสซิสต์พวกนี้นี่เองที่ทำให้อิตาลีล่มจม และราชวงศ์อิตาลีล่มสลาย
สถานการณ์ในวันนี้ของประเทศยิ่งเลวร้ายกว่ารัฐบาลที่มาจากการเลือกตั้งเพิ่งเข้าทำหน้าที่ได้ 7 เดือน ผลสำรวจความคิดเห็นประชาชนกว่า 70% ไม่เห็นด้วยกับการประท้วงและยังคงให้การสนับสนุนรัฐบาลชุดนี้ต่อกลุ่มพันธมิตรก็ไม่ได้มีท่าทีอ่อนลงกลับประกาศจุดยืนด้วยข้อเสนอที่กร้าวและเป็นเผด็จการว่าประชาชนควรมีสิทธิเลือกผู้แทนเพียง 30% ที่เหลือให้มาจากการแต่งตั้ง
แม้ว่ากรุงเทพอาจจะมีประเพณีที่แตกต่างแต่ตอนนี้ก็เป็นเวลาที่เหมาะสมที่พระเจ้าแผ่นดินของไทยจะรับคิวต่อจากพระเจ้าแผ่นดินของสเปน นั่นคือการที่จะต้องเข้ามาแสดงบทบาทและยุติการทำรัฐประหารครั้งนี้ในทันที ถ้าพระองค์ทำด้วยความชัดเจนและด้วยความมุ่งมั่น พระองค์จะทรงสร้างความมั่นคงให้กับอนาคตของประเทศไทย และจะทำให้ไม่มีใครกล้าแอบอ้างพระนามไปใช้โดยไม่ชอบธรรมอีกต่อไป และจะเป็นการสร้างประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยิ่งใหญ่ในภูมิภาคนี้ และในโลกที่เต็มไปด้วยปัญหาที่ยุ่งเหยิงซับซ้อน ถ้าไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้น และรัฐบาลที่มาจากการเลือกตั้งถูกบังคับให้ลาออก สถานการณ์ก็จะมีแต่แย่ลง จะเป็นการก่อจลาจลของไทยครั้งที่สองภายในเวลาเพียง 2 ปี ตลาดหุ้นของไทยก็ตกลงไปแล้วกว่า 25% และค่าเงินบาทก็อ่อนตัวลงเรื่อยๆ ความมั่นใจทางธุรกิจลดลงจนต่ำสุด และในไม่ช้าการท่องเที่ยวของไทยก็จะได้รับผลกระทบ ประเทศไทยก็จะกลายเป็นผู้ป่วยคนใหม่ของเอเชีย…และพวกเราก็ต้องรอรับผลที่ตามมา

Facts about Thaksin’s Land Deal

Facts about Ratchadapisek Land Deal
1. First auction of this Land by FIDF (the Financial Institution Development Fund) was a failure
On July 10, 2003, FIDF, a separate government office set up by special decree to solve financial crisis in Thailand many years before Dr. Thaksin’s government, has put this Land on public auction with minimum bidding price of Baht 870 million. There were 3 companies who were interested in obtaining the TOR (term of reference); i.e. Land and House PCL, Tanglor Residence Co., Ltd and Sansiri Property PLC. However, no bid was submitted as the minimum bidding price was too high. FIDF thus cancel the auction.
2. Second Auction was announced to the public via FIDF’s internet website
On November 5, 2003, the FIDF has again announced the proposed sale the Ratchadapisek Land to public via its website. One condition of the bid was that a potential bidder shall submit a cash deposit of Baht 100 million. Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra was interested in buying this property for her residential purposes. She appointed Mr. Somboon Kuptimanas as her attorney in fact to submit the bid.
3. FIDF checked qualifications of each bidder before the bid was allowed.
The FIDF appointed 2 committees to supervise the bidding process. The first committee was the bid accepting committee, the second was the price opening committee.
Before each potential bidder submits the bid, its qualification must be approved by the committees. The Committee did not find Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra disqualified, but appoved that she was qualified to submit the bid.
4. There were 4 potential bidders and The bid price offered by Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra is the highest.
There were 4 potential bidders who purchased the Bid TOR. However, one bidder was disqualified because the attorney who submitted the bid was not properly authorized. The Committee thus disqualified this potential bidder.
There remained 3 bidders. Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra offered Baht 772 million, Noble Development Public Company Limited offered Baht 750 million, and Land and House Public Company Limited offered Baht 730 million.
5. The Auction was transparent. The Committee sold the Land to the highest bid
Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra has no connection nor influence over those 2 publicly listed real estate developer. On December 16, 2003, after the opening of the bid price, the Committee held a meeting to approve Khun Ying Pojamarn’s bid and the FIDF signed the Land Sale and Purchase Agreement with her on December 17, 2003.
6. Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra signed the Consent Form as a husband not as Prime Minister
On December 29, 2003, Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra signed the consent form required by officials to effect the registration of the Ratchadapisek land transfer. He used his official identity care showing his title of Prime Minister as part of the formality which requires spouse-consent identity card of the spouse, for any registration of real estate. Prior to his signature, he has received confirmation that the Prime Minister is not the officer in charge or has authority to direct, control supervise, audit or take legal action against the FIDF.
7. If this is corruption, why together with submit the bid herself ?
If Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra or his wife intends to corrupt or abuse his Prime Ministerial powers as claimed by the Asset Examination Committee, (the “AEC”) it would have been simpler and easier if he had someone else bought the Land. There is no reason for Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra to participating in the bid by herself except when she knew and was informed by the FIDF that legally she is entitled to do so.
8. Prime Minister’s Wife can purchase land from FIDF: This is not a conflict of interest
The sale of Ratchadapisek land by FIDF was done by public auction. Announcement was made publicly and anyone can participate. Further, the FIDF even reserves its right not to sell to the highest bidder if it thinks the price is not right, See Clause 19, 20 and 21 of the FIDF’s Announcement. This transaction is not an abuse of power nor conflict of interest.
9. Prime Minister has no authority to direct, control, supervise, audit or take legal action against the FIDF
Supreme Court Decision No. 4655/2533 ruled that “FIDF is a separate and distinct juristic person, independent from the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Thailand. It has its own rights and duty in accordance with laws and regulations and within the boundary of its objectives”
Thus, the FIDF is not part of the central administration, it is a separate juristic person. Thereby, the Prime Minister is not a government officer nor state official by the meanings of the Criminal Code who has regular authority to direct, control, supervise, audit or take legal action against the FIDF. (Therefore, Section 100 of the Organic Act on Counter Corruption shall not apply to Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife in this Land purchase. See Section 100 below for reference.)
10. FIDF suffers no loss nor damage from this sale.
The signing of the sale and purchase contract with respect to the Ratchadapisek Land between FIDF and Khun Ying Pojamarn Shinawatra including all payments and registration of the land transfer have been made in good faith, with fair consideration paid and in accordance with the laws.
The FIDF has conducted this sale as part of its official duty and within the scope of its objectives. Mr. Charnchai Boonrithchaisri, Senior Director of the Legal and Litigation Department of the Bank of Thailand has informed the press, as published on Page 16 of Thairath newspaper dated 24th of January 2007 that “…the FIDF found nothing illegal about this Land sale. We did not see how we (FIDF) loss or suffer any damage from this sale where the bidding price was higher than the benchmark we set. The benchmark price also came form the valuation of fair market price we did survey. So there is no loss to us (FIFD)”.
Such interview was consistent with comments of M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakul, [the then Governor of the Bank of Thailand and also was Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance for this military appointed government] published on Page 1 and 4 of Prachachait Thurakij newspaper dated 27th May 2004 that “… FIDF sold [the land] at good price, 15% higher than [our] valuation price”
11. Accusation … a political movement
In brief, the accusation by the AEC was made with prejudice, unfair, without due process and driven by political motivation.
Section 100 of the Organic Art on Counter Corruption B.E.2542 (1999)
Section 100 Any State official shall not carry out the following acts:
(1) being a party to or having interest in a contract made with a Government agency where such State official performs duties in the capacity as State official who has the power to conduct supervision, control, inspection or legal proceedings;
(2) being a partner or shareholder in a partnership or company which is a party to a contract made with a Government agency where such State official performs duties in the capacity as a State official who has the power to conduct supervision, control, inspection or legal proceedings;
(3) being a concessionaire or continuing to hold a concession from the State, State agency, State enterprise or local administration or being a party to contract of a directly or indirectly monopolistic nature made with the State, a Government agency, State agency, State enterprise or local administration, or being a partner or shareholder in a partnership or company which is a concessionaire or a contractual party in such manner;
(4) being interested in the capacity as a director, counsel, representative, official or employee in a private business which is under supervision, control or audit of the State agency to which such State official is attached or where such State official performs duties in the capacity as State official, provided that the nature of the interest of the private business may be contrary to or inconsistent with public interest or the interest of the Government service or may affect the autonomy in the performance of duties of such State official.
The positions of State officials prohibited from carrying out the activities under paragraph one shall be prescribed and published in the Government Gazette by then N.C.C Commission.
The provisions of paragraph one shall apply to spouses of the State officials under paragraph two. For this purpose, the activities carried out by the spouse shall be deemed as the activities carried out by the State official.
Who is the mastermind behind the Doom of Thaksin Shinawatra (I)
Thaksin was a very successful business man. He started many business enterprises, failed many times, closed to filing a bankruptcy many times. He never gives up. He fought back, digged his way out of the hole, and then, one door opened.
The door was opened, many saw it but thought it was a door way down.
Thaksin saw it, he thought this was a door to new world, a world where comminiation and technology will go hand in hand. A new era where the world will get smaller, the poeple will be bigger and the world will move at the pace no one’s ever seen before; the world of mobile network, mobile telephone, internet and settelite communications.
Thaksin founded a company, got license from government to start up computer business and mobile phone in early 1980s. After a few years, his company took off extremely well. He got more funds from Singapore Telecom and then listed his companies in the Thai stock market. By late 1980, he became the richest man in Thailand. Few years later, his name was listed on Forbes and various other wealthy magazines as one of the wealthies man on earth.
His wealth and fortunes caused many to admire and many to envy. Thaksin was just a nuveau-rich, money with no taste or any link to higher social status.
His success made him a very arrogant man. He believes if he can turn around his company, if he can fight his way from bankruptcy to be the richest man in Thailand, why can he not turn around his country!
This is his only mistake that he now regrets.
Only if he stays on with his business, make more money, buy Manchester City or even Liverpool, no one can touch him. But since he decided to enter politic, to acheive his childhood dream of becoming the national hero, he was brought down.
Thaksin approached politic in the same manner he learned from his buiness experiences. You do not produce goods you like. You do produce goods the customers like!
He set his team to study the demographic of Thai voters, study of poor people’s problems and needs, then he developed the policies he knew would satisfy the majority of voters.
His streategy proved a great success. It was the first time in Thailand that one political party won majority of the votes! Thaksin’s dream to be national heroes finally came true. But that was just the beginning of this sega.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
That remains the turth even today, Thaksin was no exception.
He was so powerful that people closed to him could enjoy a lot of benefits. All government contracts went to his supporters, strengthening his political base. He forced other political parties to join him.
Effectively he became Lee Kwan Yu of Singapore. Thaksin believes that only the leader like Lee Kwan Yu can lead Thailand to the forefront of Asia.
Then why it turned wrong?
I do not think his corruptions has anything to do with it.
Look at it this way, if Thaksin continues as prime minister, who will lost the most?
I don’t think Thai people will be the one who suffer. What is wrong with economic policies like Thaksin’s? I saw McCain and Obama’s campaign are as populist as Thaksin’s. Any politicians in any civilised countries are as corrupteds, don’t get me started.
But the policy of Thaksin cause poor Thais to realise that they too have power. They too have bargaining power. They too can and have the right to demand actions and services from government!
How?
By voting! Thaksin’s ear changed the way poor Thais look at politic, now they know they have rights and power as the majority of people of the country to demand from government.
When you read this, you may think this is funny becuase from western world, we know that as a citizen we have our civil rights. But that is not something so common in country like Thailand.
If you are poor, uneducated, have no connection, you are not even considered human!
You have to beg for things. When you contact government office, you are begging them for services even if you want to renew your I.D. card, it was something you have to begged for.
Thaksin changed all that. He taught the poors they have the rights to demand, that they cano get everything they want if they chose the right government. Good or bad policy, I dont know. But this is something someone who are powerful above the laws in Thailand do not like.
Thaksin Shinawatra: Guilty or Not Guilty
August 11, 2008, Thaksin Shinawatra and his family are in London, UK. Thai Court are so angry becuase now Thaksin is saying he and his family did not receive fair trial.
The billionaire telecom tycoon was thrown out of power by military when he was visiting the UN in September 2006.
Thaksin was very popular among the poor and the have-nots in Thailand. His policy that gave him 2 landslide winnings of popular votes, includes cheap medicare (the poor can get almost free medical treatment), low interest loans to farmers who cannot afforde loan from commercial banks, one village one product productivity campaign to help farmers earn extra income during non-harvesting season.
After the coup in 2006, special investigation was set up against Thaksin accusing him of corruptions and that he pocketed billions of dollars during his term as prime minister.
Until today, August 12, 2008, the military and their alliances cannot produce any such evidence. If Thaksin was so corrupted, where was his money? Who paid him? Why the military can not get the banks to confirm any special payment to him or to anyone related to him.
The billions dollars assets that his family has and was frozen was the money they received from the sale of shares in their telecommunication businesses founded by Thaksin since 1980, decades before he joined politics.
The only case that the military-backed committee can file against Thaksin in court was the ‘Land Deal’.
From the military perspective, the purchase of a specifice plot of land by Thaksin’s wife was a corruption. Thai people also has such information because most newspaper were bombarding such stories days in days out.
